ANTIQUE FRENCH RENAISSANCE DOUBLE PEDESTAL DESK, LEATHER TOP in MIRANDA, New South Wales for sale

This French double pedestal Renaissance style desk is a truly magnificent piece of antique French furniture. The piece is constructed of deep, mellow oak timbers, and has such a wonderful, aged patina. Definitely antique, we would date this beautiful desk to c1880.
The desk is beautifully proportioned, and has the elegance and style so often associated with quality made French pieces. The desk has a double pedestal base with doors opening to cupboards on each pedestal. The door fronts are simply gorgeous, with three dimensional designs and turned, cotton reel like columns to each side. The columns form part of the door, and open with it. There are two original keys for the pedestal cupboards. Atop the cupboards, there are three drawers. The surface of the desk has a new beautifully tooled leather insert. The desk sits on small, squat bun feet, and the pedestals and top are three separate pieces, for ease of transportation and movement.
This is a highly functional large-size desk with a generous desk surface. Overall, the desk measures 164cm wide, 82cm deep and is 75.5cm high.The kneehole is generous, and measures 60.5cm high and a massive 58cm wide.
This attractive desk presents in beautiful antique condition, and there are no significant defects. The beautifully tooled leather insert has just been done, ready for a new owner and new home! The timber of the desk is solid oak, and whilst in great condition, does have that hightly desirable aged appearance As with all antique and vintage furniture, age-appropriate wear and character marks should be expected.
